2017 Australian CROSS COUNTRY Championships

The 2017 Australian Cross Country Championships will be held at Kembla Joggers Cross Country Park, Wollongong on the 26th of August 2017.


Queensland Athletics will be selecting athletes to represent the state in the Queensland Team in the Under 14, Under 16, Under 18, Under 20 and Open age groups. Multi Class athletes will also be selected in the Under 14, Under 16 and Under 20 age groups.

To be eligible for selection, athletes must be registered members of Queensland Athletics (QA) or Athletics North Queensland (ANQ).


Selection Events

  1. 35th QA All Schools Cross Country Championships, Kedron (U14/U16/U18 & Multi Class only)
  2. Queensland 8km Cross Country Championships, Richlands (U20/Open only)
  3. Queensland Cross Country Championships, Maleny (All age groups U14-Open & Multi Class)


  1. 1st, 2nd & 3rd at QA All Schools in 12yrs, 13yrs, 14yrs, 15yrs, 16yrs & 17yrs who nominate will be selected.
  2. 1st, 2nd & 3rd at Queensland Cross Country Championships in U13, U14, U15, U16, U17 & U18 who nominate will be selected.
  3. Remaining places in the U14, U16 & U18 age groups will be selected based on the results, of those who nominate, from QA All Schools & Queensland Championships to fill the team to a total of 16 male and 16 female athletes in each age group.
  4. U20 & Open Official Representatives will be selected from performances at 8km event and the Queensland Championships.
  5. Multi Class athletes (U14, U16, U20) who nominate will be selected from performances at the QA All Schools and the Queensland Championships. Multi Class athletes musachieve the qualifying standard for their classification.


Any athlete that would like to be considered for selection in the the Queensland Cross Country Team must nominate.

Team & Selection Policy


Please note that it is not compulsory to stay with the Team Management. There are limited travel packages for athletes, which will include accommodation and breakfast, as well as ground transport. Please note that athletes are responsible for purchasing their own flights.

It is compulsory for all athletes selected by Queensland Athletics to compete in the Queensland team competition uniform at the Australian Championships. Uniform orders typically take 5-10 business days to arrive after purchase. Please ensure any orders are made before Sunday, 13th August.

Nominations close Sunday 30th July 2017.

Successful athletes will be notified of the success of their application on Tuesday 1st August 2017, with a complete team list to be posted on the Queensland Athletics website by 5pm that day.

Athletes who have gained automatic selection through either the 34th QA All Schools Cross Country Championships (Kedron, 6th May) or Queensland Cross Country Championships (Maleny, 29th July) are still required to nominate for the team.

Please note that athletes selected in the Queensland Team will not be confirmed team members until they have completed the team registration and payment form.

Junior Team Levy

It is not compulsory for athletes to stay with the Queensland Team. Queensland Athletics will not be booking flights for athletes.

The Team Levy for junior athletes is TBA. This applies to athletes competing in the U14, U16 or U18 age groups or the Multi Class athletics age groups (U14, U16, U20).

The team levy includes:

  • Team Management Costs; Queensland Athletics will be sending three experienced Team Managers to accompany all athletes during these Championships
  • Team Administration Costs
  • Free Access to Physiotherapist
  • Event Entry Costs

Senior Team Levy

It will not be compulsory for athletes selected to represent the Queensland Team in either the U20 or Opens age group to stay with Team Management. The Team Levy for these athletes is $50. This levy includes:

  • Team Administration Costs
  • Free Access to Physiotherapist
  • Event Entry Fee


Accommodation packages are available. Package details are TBC.

Athletes are not required to stay with the Team.  The accommodation package includes accommodation (twin share), breakfast and transport between the Sydney Airport, Team hotel and the competition venue. Athletes who choose to stay with the team must make arrangements to find transport to Sydney Airport and must also inform Queensland Athletics of their travel details in writing.

Please note that Queensland Athletics does NOT book flights for athletes. Athletes are required to book their own flights.

To support the safe and effective function of the Queensland Athletics team, the Association is calling for applications from potential team managers. We are hoping to appoint up to 3 team managers for this tour.
