The 2018 Australian Marathon Championships will be held in Sydney (NSW) on Sunday 16th of September, in conjunction with the Blackmores Sydney Running Festival.

As in previous years all State and Territory member associations have been invited to send 6 male and 6 female athletes to contest this event. The top three placings in each gender will accumulate points towards a total team score. Each athlete will also be eligible to compete for the Australian Marathon Individual Championship.

Athletes selected to in the Queensland Marathon Team receive the following:

  • Free race entry
  • Use of Elite Athlete Facilities on race day
  • An elite start at the front of the field

Marathon Qualification Standard:

Women: 3:40:00

Men: 3:30:00

In order for an athlete to be considered for selection to represent Queensland at the championships they must complete the nomination form - see link below.

Due to the individualised nature of marathons, selections are at the discretion of the Queensland Marathon Selection Committee. The committee will consider events from open cross country through to marathons, with performances at marathons to be given the greatest weight. Where applicable, the committee will give greater weight to performances achieved at Queensland Athletics permitted events.

Athlete Code of Behaviour

The top three male and female athletes from each state will be provided assistance package as follows:

  1. One night's twin share accommodation
  2. Travel assistance to the value of $150
  3. Ground transport to the start line



Friday 27th July (5pm): Team Applications Close

Tuesday 7th August: Queensland Team Announced

Sunday 16th September: Australian Marathon Championships
