Sporting Schools is an Australian Government initiative designed to help schools increase children's participation in sport and to connect children with community sporting opportunities.
In partnership with National Sporting Organisations, like Athletics Australia, Sporting Schools assists the coordination of coaches and teachers to deliver sport before, during and after regular school hours.
Over 1,200 individual schools and 130,000 participants have already been part of this initiative through Athletics Australia.
The IAAF Kids Athletics Course offers coaches the opportunity to be upskilled to be able to deliver the Sporting Schools program. Coaches will be educated on the philosophy and aims of the program, as well as how to plan and progress activities.
The Sporting Schools Program provides Accredited Athletics Coaches an opportunity to receive paid employment as a casual employee with Athletics Australian and to deliver the IAAF Kids' Athletics Program in primary schools across Australia. This is also a perfect opportunity for school teachers to get involved and deliver this program before, during and or after school times.
The only prerequisite to attend this upskilling course is holding one of the following:
- Be an accredited and currently financial coach with Athletics Australia.
- Held in 2014 the Active After School Community Coaching Accreditation (AASC CPT), and be an accredited and currently financial coach with Athletics Australia.
- If you are a registered teacher or an AASC CPT you will need to ensure that you are an accredited coach through Athletics Australia. If you are not currently accredited or have any questions please contact Blair Taylor
