The 1500m Classic is a Gold Label (National Permit) event supported by Queensland Athletics and conducted by the UQ Sport Athletics Centre.
Since its inception in 2004, the UQ Sport 1500m Classic has been a regular fixture in the Queensland Athletics calendar, kicking off the track and field season!
The 2017 event, to be held at the UQ Sport Athletic Centre on Thursday 2 November, is the first opportunity for middle distance athletes to achieve a Commonwealth Games qualifier in the 2017/2018 domestic season.
The event features a range of 1500 metre events – including Race Walking and elite-level Men’s and Women’s running races – with the program boasting 19 races. Athletes of all ages – from primary and secondary school students to Masters and Open age groups – flock from across Queensland to take part, with all races seeded based on performance.
This year, $4,600 in prize money is up for grabs, including $1,200 that will be pocketed by the winners of the Men’s and Women’s Open races. In other events, placegetters will be awarded cash or a voucher, with all top-three finishers receiving a unique plaque associated with this event.
Once again UQ Sport will be live streaming the elite-level races, with partial coverage of all other events, meaning athletes, family and friends from all over the world will have the chance to tune in!
