Queensland Coaching PD Sessions

In a effort to assist the continued learning of all coaches Queensland Athletics is hosting a series of Professional Development sessions prior to select Shields Meets across our Summer Season. Sessions will be held at QSAC, typically commencing two hours prior to the meet.

These are free sessions, however if you plan on attending please let us know via the below links.

Session #1

Introduction to Planning and Programming
Queensland Academy of Sport and Olympic Coach Gary Bourne will host this one hour session into the framework of effective planning. Beginning with the importance of realistic Goal Setting the session with also cover Planning and Programming Procedures, Periodisation within a program, guidelines for Load Management and Peaking for Performance.

Session #2

Introduction to Strength Training Programming

Run by Queensland Academy of Sport Strength & Conditioning Coach for Athletics Chris Gaviglio this session will cover the basics of strength training programming encompassing different periodisation models through to program design. The session is designed for the coach who may have little experience with periodising their athlete's gym programs or for those who may want to further develop their knowledge in this area. Comprising of both theoretical and practical components coach input is heavily encouraged during this talk.

Session #3

Interactive Strength Training Programming Workshop


This workshop leads on from Chris Gaviglio's first session which looked into the basics of strength programming. The workshop is primarily aimed at coaches who are already programming for their athletes. This is a totally interactive workshop and requires participation from attendees. The aim of the workshop is for coaches to use their own athlete's gym programs as a discussion piece with a view to collaborate with other coaches and improve on their own programming skills.

Brisbane Broncos Performance Scientist and UQ PhD Candidate Johnpaul Caia unpacking the importance of sleep on recovery and contributions to high performance.
