Wuzhong International Racewalking Tournament

Queensland athlete Dane Bird-Smith, 2016 Olympic medalist and 2017 World Championship 6th, is currently racing in the 'Around Taihu' Wuzhong international racewalking tournament, 50km over 4 races and 4 days, near the city of Suzhou in the province of Jiangsu, China.

This multi day race walking event, includes world and national racing, as well as public fitness walking (on mass 15,000 walkers) around beautiful Taihu Lake. The elite international race walkers compete as individuals and in teams, and the winner wears the yellow jersey into the next race, while they collect points which accumulate for overall prize money, after four tough days of racing.Dane was one of two international athletes to be invited to speak at the press conference at the start of the event. This is a unique and successful event that exists due to co-operation between private corporations in Wuzhong and the Chinese Athletic Association.
